we crossed the ocean
in motion
holding both our hands
our ugly words
in the winds
nothing said was planned
we threw ourselves
in the water
as it all fell apart
the bering strait collapsed
and so did our hearts
explanation/analysis:
“bering strait” is about a tumultuous conflict that can really split up a friendship. It’s about crossing the “bridge of friendship” together and how a relationship either naturally or forcefully dissolves. When I wrote this, I honestly didn’t have much in mind. I just wanted to compare a dissolving friendship to the “bering strait” which was a bridge connecting the Pacific and Arctic oceans. It went underwater due to the rise of sea levelsand I guess that can represent the tumbling waters of a relationship. How something can push something that was once a whole, underwater.
